Our focus on March 14th’s show is current anti-trans and anti-drag legislation in Tennessee and the national implications behind those bills. Since 2022, some 340 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in states across the U.S. (according to the Human Rights Campaign). Since 2015, TN has enacted more anti-LGBT laws than any other state in the country.  Among the slew of bills getting railroaded through the legislative process are:

On March 2, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee kept his promise to sign SB1, a controversial bill effectively banning access to gender-affirming care for trans minors. Since last November, Republican lawmakers have proposed over 20 bills targeting LGBTQ2S+ Tennesseans, specifically, the accessibility of gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth.

Tennessee is peeling back the rights of transgender people for the third year in a row. This session, the state legislature passed a ban on drag shows and gender-affirming health care for minors. The bills are now headed to Gov. Bill Lee, who indicated he’ll sign them.
